Sweet Heat Chili

We love this recipe because it is slow cooker friendly and easily adapts to your preference on protein, heat and sweetness. We recommend using a 6 quart slow cooker or larger. If you are not using a slow cooker, you can use a heavy pot on the stove on the medium heat setting. Once it begins to simmer, cover the pot and set the heat too low. Stir occasionally and, for best results, allow the ingredients to simmer for at least 35-50 minutes.

Ingredients

2 (16-oz.) cans of kidney beans (can substitute any red or white bean)

1 (16-oz.) can of chunky tomato sauce

1 (15-oz.) jar roasted red bell peppers, diced

2 Tbsp. honey

2 Tbsp. brown sugar (light or dark)

1-3 Tbsp. Danger Zone® Cayenne Hot Sauce

2 lbs. ground beef, turkey or chicken

½ cup medium yellow onion, diced

1 cup water, red wine or beer

Instructions

  1. In the slow cooker, combine beans (undrained), tomato sauce, peppers, honey, brown sugar, hot sauce, and desired liquid. Stir until well mixed. Start the slow cooker using the 6 hour low setting.

  2. In a heated and oiled deep sauté pan, add your protein and onions, stirring occasionally until thoroughly cooked. Drain the excess liquid and then add the protein and onions to the slow cooker.

  3. When ready to serve, you can kick up the heat with additional cayenne hot sauce or add more honey to increase the sweetness. Serve with cheese, sour cream, additional chopped onion, or peppers (hot or sweet).
